A Couples Weekend in Davie County: Sip, Savor & Reconnect

Sometimes you just need to get away together.

Not a packed vacation with an itinerary for every hour. Not a long drive or a flight. Just a couple of days to slow down, try something new, share a great meal, laugh together, and remember how nice it is to have nowhere else you need to be.

You can do all of that in Davie County.

Spend a weekend sipping local wine, getting your hands dirty at a pottery wheel, lingering over afternoon tea, chasing the sunset across a golf course and sharing meals you don’t have to cook—or clean up after.

Best of all, you can make the weekend exactly what you want it to be.

Here’s a little inspiration to get you started.

Friday: Arrive, Unwind & Let the Weekend Begin

Stay Downtown or Escape to the Country

Start by choosing a place that makes your weekend feel like a getaway from the moment you arrive.

If historic charm and the energy of downtown are calling your name, check into Carolina Frost Cabin in Mocksville. Built before 1840 and beautifully restored, this cozy one-bedroom cabin pairs exposed logs, antique furnishings and a wood-burning fireplace with modern comforts.

Pour a drink, settle onto the screened porch and listen to downtown settle into evening. When you’re ready to explore, Main Street’s restaurants and shops are just outside your door.

Or leave town behind and escape to a Secluded Cabin on a Horse Farm, tucked away on 50 acres just a few miles from downtown Mocksville.

Here, your weekend might begin on the porch with nothing but woods and meadows in sight. Take a walk along the trails, build a fire after dark, or arrange a trip to the barn to meet the horses and miniature donkeys.

Two completely different ways to get away—and both feel a world apart from the everyday.

Looking for something else? Davie County has downtown lofts, historic cottages and quiet country retreats to choose from. Explore more options on our Discover Davie Places to Stay page.

Once you’ve dropped your bags, take a little time to settle in.

There’s no need to rush.

You have the whole weekend ahead of you.

Choose Your Friday Night Date Spot

Once you’ve settled in, head toward Bermuda Run for dinner. Depending on what you’re craving, you have two very different date-night options.

For an easygoing but polished evening, try Davie Tavern, where the menu includes hand-cut steaks, fresh pasta, salads, burgers, and creative dishes. Grab a table inside or, when the weather cooperates, enjoy dinner on the patio.

Or spice things up with dinner at Thai Destiny in Kinderton Village. Share a plate of fresh spring rolls or dumplings before exploring a menu filled with Thai and Lao favorites.

Whichever you choose, don’t rush off just yet. Your first night in Davie County has one more stop.

One More Glass at Mat’s Place

Finish the evening at Mat’s Place Wine Shop in Bermuda Run.

Mat’s Place offers dozens of curated wines by the glass or by the bottle, along with gourmet snacks, in a cozy setting designed for lingering and conversation.

No agenda. No rushing. Find a comfortable spot and spend a little time doing something couples don’t always get enough time to do during a busy week:
Talk.

Follow the Music

Still not ready to call it a night? See who’s playing.

Live music is part of the weekend scene around Davie County, and you may find a band or local musician playing just a few minutes away.

Tanglewood Pizza Company in Bermuda Run regularly hosts live music, with its patio, wood-fired pizza and craft beer making it an easy place to settle in for the evening.

If you’re staying downtown, The Station Pizzeria & Taproom on Main Street is another great option, with live music many Friday and Saturday nights. And just down the street, O’Callahan’s Publick House also brings live music and special events to downtown Mocksville.

Sometimes the best part of a getaway is the thing you didn’t plan.

Check the Discover Davie Events Calendar before your trip to see who’s playing while you’re here.

Then, when you’re finally ready, head back and call it a night. Saturday has plenty in store.

Saturday: Slow Down, Try Something New & Have a Little Fun

Don’t Set the Alarm

Seriously, sleep in.

Make coffee. Sit on the porch. Take a walk. Read a few pages of a book. Or do absolutely nothing for a while.

One of the pleasures of getting away is waking up and realizing there is nowhere you have to be.

Eventually, though, there’s a pottery wheel waiting for you in downtown Mocksville.

Get Your Hands Dirty at Stepping Stones Pottery

A couples pottery date at Stepping Stones Pottery puts a completely different spin on date night.

Sit down at the wheel, get your hands in the clay, and learn the basics together.

Never tried pottery? Even better.

Maybe one of you will uncover a previously unknown artistic talent. Maybe you’ll both create something only its maker could love.

Either way, you’ll probably laugh—and you’ll have something much better than another souvenir to remember the weekend by.

Afterward, stay downtown awhile. Wander along Main Street, browse the shops, hunt for the murals, grab a cup of coffee, or simply walk hand in hand with nowhere particular to go.

Wine in the Country or Tea in a Historic Farmhouse?

Now comes a difficult decision.

If a laid-back afternoon tasting sounds good, head into the countryside to Dove Vine Beverage.

This isn’t your typical wine tasting. Sample wines, fruit wines, honey wines, ciders and other locally crafted beverages, compare favorites and discover something new together.

Find one you both love? Take a bottle back to the cabin for later.

For something completely different, make a reservation for tea at Johnson House Bakery & Tea Room in historic Farmington.

Housed in a beautifully restored 1800s farmhouse, Johnson House feels like the kind of place made for slowing down. Settle in over a pot of tea and a beautifully presented selection of savory bites, freshly baked treats, and sweets while enjoying the charm of the historic home.

It’s an unexpected date idea—and that’s exactly what makes it fun.

Instead of rushing through lunch, you’re invited to linger, talk, and enjoy an experience that feels a little out of the ordinary.

Just be sure to plan ahead. Tea service is offered at select times, and reservations are required.

Saturday Night: Dinner & a Date

Dinner at The Olive Tree

As Saturday afternoon winds down, head to The Olive Tree in Mocksville for dinner.

This is the night to relax over a good meal, talk about your favorite moments from the day, and settle in for an evening together.

Then, depending on the weekend—and your idea of a great date night—choose your next adventure.

Chase the Sunset at Old Field

If a little friendly competition sounds like fun, head right next door to Old Field for Twilight Golf.

You don’t have to be an experienced golfer to enjoy the short-course format. It’s casual, approachable, and just as much a date-night activity as a round of golf.

Grab your clubs and head out as the day begins to cool and the sun gets lower in the sky.

Make it competitive if that’s your style. Play as a team if it isn’t.

And if neither one of you has any idea what the score is by the end?

Even better.

Somewhere between dinner, sunset, and a few holes of golf, you’ve created the kind of Saturday night you’ll remember long after the weekend is over.

Or Make It a Show Night at The Brock

Not golfers? Trade the golf clubs for a night at the Brock Performing Arts Center.

On select weekends throughout the year, The Brock brings live music, theater and special performances to downtown Mocksville as part of the Davie County Arts Council’s performance season.

Check the schedule while you’re planning your getaway. If your weekend happens to coincide with a performance, grab a pair of tickets and turn Saturday evening into dinner and a show.

It’s another reason to plan your couples weekend around what you enjoy doing together.

Then it’s back to your home away from home for one more night.

Sunday: Sleep In, Brunch & Raise One Last Glass

Enjoy One More Slow Morning

Don’t rush Sunday.

Sleep in a little. Have coffee. Sit on the porch, take one more walk, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet before packing your bags.

Checking out doesn’t mean your couples weekend is over.

In fact, one of its best meals is still ahead.

Make Sunday Brunch an Occasion at Bistro Europa

Head to Rayson Winery & Vineyards for Sunday brunch at Bistro Europa.

This isn’t the Sunday morning to grab something quickly and hit the road.

Settle in and make brunch part of the experience. Order something you’ve been craving, add a glass of wine, and enjoy the vineyard setting while you stretch your weekend just a little longer.

After two days of exploring, creating, and playing together, Sunday is about lingering.

And when brunch is over, don’t leave quite yet.

One Last Toast at Rayson Winery & Vineyards

Before heading home, spend a little more time at Rayson Winery & Vineyards.

Enjoy a tasting, discover a new favorite, and pick out a bottle to take home. Consider it a souvenir—although this one probably won’t last very long.

Find a spot to enjoy the vineyard, raise one final glass, and toast to a weekend well spent.

Then, eventually, point the car toward home.

Plan Ahead for Your Couples Weekend

A little planning will help you make the most of your getaway. Several of these experiences require or recommend advance reservations, and hours may change seasonally.

Before you go:

  • Reserve your Couples Pottery Date at Stepping Stones Pottery in advance.
  • Make reservations for Lady Victorian Tea at Johnson House Bakery & Tea Room if that’s your Saturday afternoon choice.
  • Check Dove Vine Beverage for current hours before heading out. Reservations are not normally required.
  • Check Old Field for current twilight hours, which change with the season. No tee time is required.
  • Check the Brock Performing Arts Center schedule to see whether a performance coincides with your weekend, and purchase tickets ahead of time for the show you’d like to see.
  • Make your Sunday brunch reservation at Bistro Europa in advance. If you’d also like a Rayson wine tasting, reserve that separately and allow plenty of time for both experiences. Rayson Winery & Vineyards is a 21+ venue.
  • And, of course, reserve your accommodations before your trip.

Hours, availability, and special events can change, so check directly with each business while planning your weekend.

Your Weekend. Your Way.

There is no prize for fitting everything into one weekend.

Stay downtown or disappear into the country. Drink wine or sip tea. Play golf or catch a show.

Sleep late.

Stay for another glass.

Skip something because you’re having too much fun where you are.

Take the long way back to your cabin.

The point isn’t how much you can fit into a weekend.

It’s having the time to enjoy it together.

So find a free weekend, make a few reservations, and pack an overnight bag.

Davie County is waiting.
